This is not a plug. Or an advertisement.

This is what I’ve found when assisting clients with their e-commerce growth strategies.

Read on.

Selling online requires you to give your customers a seamless checkout process. If not, you risk decreased conversions and experiences of increased abandoned shopping carts.

Today there are many more ecommerce merchant account options to process payments other than the traditional credit and debit cards. Making customer checkouts a breeze.

Some of the features that make a good merchant account are; simple integration, high security and encryption, ability to support international payments, low fees and effective customer support.

The following are some of the best merchant accounts for ecommerce businesses.

Stripe

Stripe has been in existence for many years and has supported many ecommerce businesses by simplifying the payment processing methods. Stripe has expanded its payment options and now supports credit card, debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Master Pay.

The merchant is PCI compliant which means your privacy and security is guaranteed when using Stripe.

Authorize.net

Authorize.net supports businesses in the US, Canada, UK, Europe or Australia and it enables a direct integration of card brand networks.

It guarantees users a higher response time and top security when transacting online. When using an Authorize.net merchant account in your online store, your customers can use multiple payment options including credit cards, e-checks and debit cards.

Cybersource

Cybersource supports international businesses and makes cross-border ecommerce possible. The merchant has a worldwide payment processing network which enables businesses to easily close a deal in international markets. Payments are done thorough a single API and security is guaranteed.

PayPal

PayPal is a popular ecommerce merchant account and it guarantees an easy, safe and secure card payment process. It’s used by a lot of big businesses since the more the transactions, the cheaper the fees. You can easily open a personal PayPal account or PayPal for business on their website. I find this is a great option if you’re on a bootstrap budget for your web storefront.

2Checkout

2checkout is available in over 150 countries globally and it offers online businesses with scalable e-commerce merchant accounts. It’s easy to set-up and integrate on your website. When it’s fully functional, your customers get multiple options to complete their online payments. The merchant also has a very supportive customer care team that is always ready to offer a helping hand.

Different e-commerce merchant accounts work well with different online business models and industry. Always evaluate your customer’s needs and scope of your online business before you settle on a particular e-commerce merchant account.

Some of the factors that you should consider when choosing the best merchant account for your online store include;

  • Whether the merchant account is able to offer good POS terminals that your business needs in order to accept payments.
  • Whether they have a robust and interactive customer support
  • Whether the merchant account has customized products and solutions that are specifically designed for your online business niche.
  • Pay attention to fees and hidden charges. Most merchant accounts charge a certain percentage of every transaction that takes place. There are some which might require monthly flat rates or minimum transaction volumes.

Before you select any merchant account for your e-commerce business, always evaluate the nature of your business and customer’s needs to determine which one works best for you.
